Staniel Cay is located 90 miles SE of Nassau, New Providence, the capital of the Bahamas. Direct flights from Ft. Lauderdale and Nassau are available. It is an extremely friendly island with a local population of 100 Bahamains who live and work in and around Staniel Cay. The area offers excellent fishing, snorkeling, diving, shelling, hiking, swimming and just about everything under the sun & water, including boat rentals for waterskiing, wakeboarding and secluded island exploring. Several movies have been filmed here including, "Never Say Never", "Thunderball" (where you can snorkel through the caves) & "Splash". Uninhabited nearby islands offer extreme privacy, picturesque beaches and gin clear warm Bahamain waters. There are 3 small grocery stores for locals and visitors alike, offering a variety of items including local fruits that arrive in the operating mail boats from Nassau. There is a local island bar as well as a Yacht Club both serving lunch & dinner daily. Ask for the catch of the day!

Wondering what to bring?
Pack comfortably and casually. While the Yacht Club's gift shop and the other island stores stock many of the essentials, we advise you bring the following: several bathing suits, sandals, sunglasses, suntan lotion/sunscreen, light cover-up clothing, a pair of long pants and windbreaker in the winter, camera and film (underwater disposables work well), insect repellent, a good book or two, and maybe a portable music player.

Communication
Falcon's Nest is equipped with telephone service. Communications are also available at the The Staniel Cay Yacht Club. Fax service & Pre-paid BATELCO phone cards are available in the the Staniel Cay Yacht Club Clubhouse for use in their phone booths and internet access is available on a per-minute basis.

Medical
Staniel Cay has a small clinic with a nurse in residence, but please bring any necessary prescription medications, contact lenses solution, etc. For boaters, the nurse can be reached at the "Saint Luke's Clinic" on VHF channel 16.

Finance
There are no ATM's on Staniel Cay. The Yacht Club accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards (5% service fee applies), as well as traveler's checks. There is no need to exchange money, as Bahamian and U.S. dollars are accepted equally by all Bahamian establishments.

For Private Pilots
Before embarking, private pilots should consult the Pilots Guide to the Bahamas for navigational and other details. Staniel Cay is not a port of entry. To clear customs and immigration, we suggest either San Andros (Andros), Fresh Creek (Andros), or Chub Cay. Call us on Unicom 122.80 we will notify the shuttle service of their impending arrival. Or use the phone booth at the airport to call TC transportation service at the number posted.

Don't forget to bring proof of citizenship (either passport or a birth certificate and photo ID*.). New U.S. passport rules take effect on January 8th, 2007. Please click here for more information.
